Something you might want to avoid

Since I'm a little paranoid about creatures of the deep, more than once I've been freaked out by my wetsuit zipper strap when manages to sneak around from the back and float into my arm or head.

I wear a sleeveless, so yesterday I tried to keep it out of the way by feeding it into my sleeve at the shoulder and snaking it down down my chest just inside the sleeve opening as illustrated in figure "A"

 Figure "A"

This was a mistake.  I didn't feel anything while swimming, but when I took my wetsuit off, I discovered that the strap had created quite an abrasion (see figure "B").  And as luck would have it, this is EXACTLY where my bike bibs sit on my shoulders and it hurt (bad) pretty much through an entire ride today.

Figure "B"

Avoid this at all costs.

whatever I have to say it won't help you now, and It may even fed u up.
but i'll say it anyway: lots of vaseline!
ad the other bit of advise is to strap the velcro tab on top of the zipped up suit and then let it go, so it doesnt swing will email you the figure.

Always good to learn from others mistakes. The last race i did, as i was in the swim, I kept seeing something black every now and then near my arm and then i finally realized it was the bodymarking that I kept getting a glimpse of.
Put some bodyglide all around that abrasion.

To add on to Valen's comment, perhaps you could add a velcro tab to the end of your strap and then attach it to the wetsuit on the back/side, out of the way. Or, get rid of the strap and then ask a bystander, preferably a pretty girl, to zip you up.

I double the OUCH by AJH. The velcro sounds like a goer.

That is a nasty wetsuit bite!

My wetsuit does have a velcro tab at the end that you attach to the neck closer. This makes it easy to grab at the end of the swim and it does not flap around.

ouch! Do what James wrote.

Oh, man, Figure B looks painful! What a bummer. The strap always freaks me out, too, so I tuck about half into the neck of the wetsuit, then anchor it under the velcro so it hangs just far enough down my back to grab. Hope that heals quickly!!

Okay okay! You convinced me! I'll stay out of the water! (I'm not big on swimming anyways. Strange from someone who used to surf almost everyday)

YOUCH! But I had something similar happen on my last race. I put the strap closer to my hairline, thinking it would be easier to pull off. 3 weeks later, the scab is coming off. It's amazing how every event has these important "Live and Learn" moments.

Ouch! Thanks for the tip. Hope it gets better soon! BTW scars are pretty sexy.

Bummer! It's amazing what you can learn from the blogger community. So many do's and dont's that we all share with each other. Hope it heals up quickly!

Another reason to be just a runner.

Ouch. I take the strap (as you know, it has a little velcro at the end) and stick it to the neck velcro and then close the velcro....I can still reach it to undo it, but it doesn't get into my face when I swim....

Pre training prep for me is Body Glide..
Post is aloe vera..works wonders....

Ouch! You are not tempting me to suit up and swim anytime soon...

Ocean creatures totally freak me out, too. I won't be swimming in the ocean unless the cruiseship or yacht I am on goes under. So I understand. However, this made me laugh soooooo hard. Just the expression on your face in that picture alone…hahahhaha! I am so sorry I am unable to work up any sympathy…even though I know that abrasion hurt like a mother.
