Iron Christmas Virtual 70.3 Race

Just when I thought it was going to be all right to take it easy this week, welcome some family to California, and go to a few holiday parties, Luke from The Super Fatlete dropped this little nugget on his blog this morning - The Iron Christmas Virtual 70.3 Race.  Between today and Friday, each entrant must swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles and run 13.1 miles.  I've become a big fan of virtual races so of course I'm in.  There where a few scheduling/logistics issues to deal with, but I think I've got them sorted.  My plan is below:

Monday 12/20 (today) - No mileage towards the race as I had a previous commitment with my swim coach.  I'm not sure counting laps with fins and/or paddles would be fair, though then again I suppose all the training aids do is allow me to swim as fast as a normal person.

Tuesday 12/21 - Run 8 or 9 miles after work, most likely in the middle of a rain & wind storm.  Great.

Wednesday 12/22 - This is a key day.  I'll need to take a longer lunch, get a ride to the gym to swim my 1.2 miles, change into running clothes, run back to work to get the rest of the running miles in, suffer through the rest of the day with just a wet-nap shower, go home and clean up, pick up Ian, go to the airport to pick up my sister and stop by the gym on the way home to pick up my swim stuff.  A stressful day, but doable.

Thursday 12/23 - Provided the storms are over I'll put 20 or so miles on the bike.  The only catch here is that last week I had the brilliant idea (clearly well before I knew about this race) to host a pot luck lunch for my office staff.  So the bike ride will involve me scamming a second lunch.  Since it's the holidays and thus slow work-wise, this shouldn't be a problem.

Friday 12/24 - Provided I stay on schedule through Thursday, I'll be home free.  Because I was planning on doing 40-50 miles on the bike Friday morning anyway.

Who else is in?

Hmmm.. I've already got the swim in. Planning on a 6 mile run, a trainer ride tonight. Might be doable. I'll probably just go as "unofficial" seeming that I never seem to submit my times for these things.

I SOOOOO WISH I WASN'T SICK!!! DAMN IT!!!!!!!

I totally want to do this but I know there is NO way I can push that out by Friday - under normal circumstances it would be easy peasy but not while battling a snot filled nose and sore throat.

Good luck to you though - I will totally be cheering you on!

I so want to be in this Christmas half iron, but my pool access is slim pickings these days. Maybe I'll shoot for a duathlon and just do the bike and run.
