Floyd Landis

Floyd Landis

A few weeks ago, after I wrote a few posts about doping, I read a book by Floyd Landis. As you may know, Landis won the 2006 Tour De France, just to have the title stripped because of a positive test for a skewed testosterone/epitestosterone ratio. He was also suspended from the UCI for two years.

Throughout the ordeal, Floyd vigourously maintained his innocence by, amongst other things, organizing a long legal battle and writing a book. I thought the book was written pretty well, and it seemed sincere. I felt for the guy. I wanted to believe.

But I'm not even going to tell you the name of the book, because it doesn't matter. It turns out it was all b*llsh*t. Landis admitted today that he used performance enhancing drugs throughout his entire career.

Here is the story on CNN.com

He's also trying to pull down Lance Armstrong as well.

What a loser.

When did pushing your body to the limits of what it is capable turn into how can I alter my body so it can do more? It is a slap in the face to those who are out there training honestly and just can't compare. Frustrating

it seesm those who as asses and ruin the sport by getting busted, can't stand to see those who have done well continue to enjoy the success! Hope he makes lots of money off his book, cycling probably won't be lucrative in the future!

Ugh, why wont he go away? He is obviously looking for revenge and is hold a grudge and still bitter. He cheated, got caught, deal with it. Stop trying to bring the house down, Lance is the most drug tested athlete probably ever, clean all the time, and as much as the French hate Lance, you know there was no "switched" test with him. So Landis, your 15 minutes is over, let it be.

Lance Armstrong has always used drugs! (See how easy it is?) BikeSnobNYC has a humorous take on all this (as usual) - I guess if you can't laugh at this you'd have to cry.

I forgot to say this. Landis had established the Floyd Fairness Fund and accepted donations to defray his legal costs. I heard somewhere he may have raised close to $1MM. That's the worst part...complete fraud.

Ugh. This makes me so angry! What a jerk. The guy is trying to make a buck and bring down Lance. Seriously, has any athlete been tested more than Lance for PE drugs? Thanks for sharing.

Wow, I didn't know about the FFF where he raised money! You are right, that makes this 100 times worse.

There should be some type of punishment for basically stealing from the people who donated money for his legal costs.

Kathleen - I'm not a lawyer but I would guess a civil class action lawsuit would be possible. Maybe more? Criminally, I would think some federal interstate fraud laws have been violated.
