Endurance Athlete Project

William of Ockham
Pluralitas non est ponenda sine necessitate.

Literal English Translation:  Plurality should not be posited without necessity.

Simple Translation:  Keep it simple, stupid.

Some of you might be wondering what happened to Endurance Athlete Project.  I must admit, we came out pretty hot and heavy in July but disappeared just as fast.

The truth is that EAP never felt right to me.  On paper, I suppose I could have had a decent chance of leveraging my apparel experience with my passion for endurance sports, just like I did with music.  But the problem is that I hate music now.  OK, so maybe "hate" is a strong word.  But that said, music has become a commodity that I evaluate and monetize rather than something I just enjoy listening to.

I can't let what happened between me and music happen between me and endurance sports.  Because endurance sports have had a more positive effect on me than almost anything else in my life.  Though they are not the most important thing in life, endurance sports greatly enhance the things that are.  I've come to realize that endurance sports where a huge missing piece of me.

I'd still like to do something with EAP, though I now realize that it needs to be a service driven concern, not a product driven one.  Past that I'm not sure; we shall see.  But I know whatever I do, I have to keep it simple.

I would like to thank those of you who where early supporters of EAP.  This means a lot to me personally and is also another example of something I've always believed - that the endurance sport community, and especially the blogging community surrounding endurance sports, supports their own with no questions asked.

EAP is dead, long live EAP!!

Patrick, if EAP becomes half of what you've dreamed it could be, it will be a great success.

sucks but understandable.

I used to love real estate, buying and selling properties. Turned it into a business. It drained the life out of me for 3 years. Sold off my stake in the company. Even though I am still a licensed realtor I haven't done anything real estate related in over a year and have never been happier!

You've gotta be feeling something if you're going to go somewhere with it. The right time/project, etc. may be out there. And maybe not. And that's ok.

Best translation I've ever heard :)

Good luck with whatever you decide to turn it in to. Just make sure you love both the destination and the journey.

I couldn't agree more with this comment:

Since posting the start of my business I have gotten emails and tweets and people are posting my banners on their blogs and tweeting it. Such a great feeling to have that type of community surrounding you.

-Now I am just confused.

I look forward to rocking the brand. I think the name alone is great and your designs are even better, I may just make bootleg shirts and sell them in chinatown and endurance sport flea markets (j/k). Ok, I'm done!

I have to admit I was pretty excited about the EAP! But, I understand how things happen and never really take hold. You definitely have to have passion and the right "feeling" to go forward with something! Maybe it will come in time! Who knows!?! :)

Along what Jeff said - my dad always tells me that you can't always turn a hobby into a career cause you might stop enjoying it. It can be done, but it's more important that you keep on loving the multisport! We don't want any more "Patrick at a trade show" pics ;)

Patrick, I totally get what you said. I'm a professional photographer as well as a music teacher, and I was asked to teach photography for a couple of years at a school where I was also teaching music. Those were the worst couple of years EVER. My beloved art became a job to me, and I stopped enjoying it. Too much time spent evaluating the work of others, not enough time doing my own thing.

You're right not to pursue something that doesn't feel right. Rest assured, though - if you decide to start something else up, count on my support (just not drug dealing or prostitution. I have to draw the line SOMEwhere.)

I wasn't around in July so it seems right to me to discontinue something that I wasn't a part of. Good decision.

Live and learn young man. A few tweaks here, an adjustment there and EAP will be reinvented and thrive.

Hate music?!?!?!? I agree too strong a word for you and your music background

first of all LOVE the name Endurance Athlete Project for SOMETHING whatever it applies to. you should keep the name for something in the future its cool

regarding the music: what about back to basics (which Im sure you have tried) this summer on a 40miler ride I went all Stones it was great

What if you did one week of all things THE WHO
I think I am going to do that
starting tomorrow
Im going to download a shtload of The Who and get down with them again. I envision myself with toes in the sand on Zuma Beach listening to a crazy good guitar drum rally Who style :)

You have to go with your feelings. I've been asked about coaching a running clinic close to home and, while it is an exciting opportunity, I have to really consider what impact it could end up having on me. I have time to think about it still - and I'm taking every minute of it.
You've soared with Endurance Sports. I could see you developing a small side business down the road, just not the kind that puts bread and butter on the table.
