The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same

In 2009, I ran the Surf City 5K in 27:58 averaging a 9:00/mile pace.

In 2011, I ran the Surf City Half Marathon in 1:39 averaging a 7:35/mile pace.

I've lost over 50 pounds in the last two years.  I've run at least 1600 miles and cycled at least 5000 miles.

Yet I still have "chubby face".  I'm bummed.  Surgery may be the only option, and while I'm at it I should do something about the chrome dome.  It seems that the unintended consequence of taking care of myself is that some vanity has slipped into the equation.  That said, I am kidding about the surgery.  Given spending choices, I'd rather expand on my bike arsenal.  Which is also vain I suppose.

2011

P.S.  I'm not looking for sympathy comments.  Well maybe I am a little bit.

Condolences on your continued chubby facedness. Not getting the new mod-inspired blog theme either, so condolences on that as well.

You are ~3x better in that 2nd pic than the first.

Don't believe me....check out the race bib numbers.

Right on buddy! Great accomplishment!

You can see the fire in your face in the second picture.

Keep up the good work!

The chubby face may take awhile to get rid of.

There is certainly a difference in the faces in those pics. But I can relate to not liking what the mirror says. Just trust the rest of us: YOU. DO. NOT. LOOK. CHUBBY.

I have a chubby face too! I have been told it makes me look younger, I don't know if it is true, but I choose to believe it. Never thought of you as having a chubby face - I was called chipmunk cheeks as a child and I am scarred for life. As for your run in 2009, you were probably a tad slow because of that God AWFUL t-shirt. Sorry, I am an Aggie - I had too!

Amazing transformation, you should be proud.

Totally amazing transformation!! You should be so proud. I'm jealous of your times. (and are you kidding? No chub on the right pic at all. You need some fresh eyeballs. :-))

Go Horns!!

First of all, AWESOME job on how far you've come! To run a 5k with a 9min/M pace, then to run a 1/2mary with a 7:35min/M pace is amazing! Woohoo!

Secondly, you look awesome in the 2nd picture...determined and driven!

This is just a work in progress.

So now you brought up the face thing, i'll have to bring up the face thing. Whats with the face thing. And beside I thought we already named this and put it to bed.
p.s. Kovas don't get all self righteous on the "MOD" header. He's obviously got some skankin to get done. I like it !

Forgive my forthrightness, misread the "no sympathy" thing.

The Mods skin is a one week special limited edition skin, then I'll go back to the "Road Standard" until I can think of another limited edition skin.

Just something a little funky for y'all, that's it.

chubby (not really) face = no wrinkles!
I got before and after (-70 lbs) pictures also and on mine you see the lines...cuz the chubby cheeks are gone. See you cannot have it all..!! I'd take super fast and chubby (not really) face over turtle with a non chubby face!
congrats on your progress! amazing.

You look fabulous. I'm with EMZ--dysmorphia!

Nah, you're second picture doesn't look chubby-faced to me. And I second the person who mentioned how driven you look in the second one, as opposed to the more deer-in-the-headlights look of the second one. That said, that nine minute mile avg is my 5K PR, so I may have to stop following your blog in disgust (which would be easier than actually training more than 3 days a week).

You look great and 50 lb weight loss is awesome not to mention the 7:35 1/2 marathon pace compared with 9 minute mile 5k pace. Numbers speak for themselves. Awesome stuff.

Now you gotta go run a 5k - even though they absolutely suck.

dude - pic #1 looks like it ate pic #2. You have come a long way and should be proud of your accomplishments. AND one way to show that pride is by buying new bikes (-:

You look great! Wow!

Your kidding, right? Now you have only one chin, before you had four. Does that help? Dude you look great.

I don't see a chubby face at all. And I would tell you if I did. :)

First of all - those photos look like 2 different people - I guess they really are 2 different people. We are all our own worst critic, but

I do not see a chubby face there in the second photo. You look freaking awesome.

GREAT weight loss and improved fitness level. awesome!

You should be proud of where you are! I think we all have our issues about how we look! You are strong and fit now! Revel in the fact you were able to SHAVE a min and a half off your mile times!! Im jealous!! :)

valen said...

you forgot to mention that you also shaved your legs!

I don't know what you mean by chubby face...don't see it. Looking strong!
Your fun mod theme confused me a bit...thought I found the wrong blog! :)

I'm not seeing chub at all. Just not. Find out where your ideal weight and body fat % should be (hell, maybe you there already) and set that as your goal. Not much else you can do after that except surrender to being who you are.

Did I win the Fed Ex thing?

Awesome pace! Forget about a chubby face. You are too critical. Believe me, at my age (and I'm not THAT OLD, 45), I can't let double chins or back flab get in the way. If you love to run, forget about it.

Dropping 50 pounds by the way is awesome too!! I have been trying to drop 15/20 lbs over the past year. Haven't lost 1. But I still run : )

Congrats on such a great time.

Your weight-loss and fitness accomplishments are very inspiring to me - you look so amazing, I can totally see a difference! Keep up the great work and don't worry, I'm still trying to get rid of A LOT of chubby on myself!!

my husband who I have long hated for his ability to eat entire pizzas and rows of cookies while staying slim, always appears to have double chins in pictures...it's a bizarre thing
