Crazy French Cows On A Tear

Here's a 2 minute video clip from yesterday's stage of the Criterium du Dauphine.  It's from French TV, but you don't need to know the language to understand what you are watching.

You don't see this every day, especially here in the United States. Because unless you are at the rodeo, the only time you see a cow at a sporting event is when you are stuffing your face with an all beef hot dog.

But when the "stadium" is the countryside in and around the great mountain ranges of Europe, things happen.  I seem to recall goats on the road during one of last year's Tour de France stages.  Maybe it was at the Vuelta a Espana, I don't remember.  However, I do remember that it's the only time that Mary has shown any interest in watching cycling on TV.

But I digress.  My point is that running into a cow at 40 KPH (25 MPH) would suck.  Those things must weigh at least 1700 pounds.  The average rider (including the bike) is probably somewhere between 160 and 170 pounds.  Ouch.

As I understand it, the cows were fine.  And all the riders were more or less fine.

I believe this is reminiscent of the surfers enforcing their locals only rule.

Great video!, This happened to me when hiking once, but it was a 'jersey' cow, so it was expected. All crazy MF's come from jersey. (Notice Jersey stab, I do it too...)

Thanks!

Ha, here in Africa cows are more common on the road than cyclists. I live in Johannesburg but some days on my way to work I stop for a herd of cattle to cross the road.:)

I cant view this video from where I'm at. But having seen the race and it is something I won't forget, the cows where freaking huge and they litterally just popped in off the side of the road. Oh and then they started running down the road with the cyclist. LOL ! Also how the hell did the one rider get all the way on the other side of the road. He was like 25 feet away from his bike ? Did he hit the cow and then get up and run away from them ? That's the footage I would have liked to seen.

I didn't know you were running H2C. if I get selected, I would love to connect with you or at least see what legs we have!

HOLY COW!!! I am so excited that I got to be the one to say that! Ahahahhaah! That would supersuck. And that announcer must've said 'the cow is on the road' at least 20 times… definitely increases the excitement factor :P
