Something a little different...

Tonight I made a very rare trip up to Hollywood. One of the bands we work with called The Mystery Jets where playing, and because none of our normal vendors where available, I went up to sell the merchandise.

The Mystery Jets have a pretty typical story.  The band has become quite popular at home in the UK, but this is their first time they've come to the US.  So the "tour" consists of a club show in New York and another in LA

The show was at the Troubadour, which is a very iconic venue that's been around since the 50's.  This room has seen it all:  From Elton John to Guns n Roses to Coldplay, the Troubadour is many bands first stop in LA.  The band was actually quite good.

I probably haven't vended a show in 10 years.  As such it seems I've lost my mojo - Not that this is an impressive skill by any means, but I used to be able to count a 6 dozen case of t-shirts in 3 minutes.  Tonight it was more like 10 minutes.  And I can't count cash as fast as I used to either.

But the club is pretty small and so you don't really do too much business.  So I managed to keep up in the end.  And it was definitely fun to interact with customers at this level again.   I went back to my roots, if just for an evening....

This must have been a slow period.  Self portrait, bad light...
Tomorrow I switch gears back to triathlon and get ready for the Long Beach Triathlon on Sunday.

If I remember correctly, I saw a show at the Troubador with Kansas, Molly Hatchet, and Small Potatoes, who went on to become Guns n Roses. Looks like Ian is about to do the Italian spoke thing to you, a la Breaking Away.

You and Kovas are both practicing the 'stay away I'm a thug' expression, from the look of your side-by-side photos. He still hasn't quite mastered it like you though... GOOD LUCK at your race!!!

I've never been to the Troubadour down here but there's on in San Francisco that I went to a long time ago. They may not even be related to one another, heh.

Changing hats is like going through a transition zone sometimes. Have fun tomorrow.

Wo. When I was in college I used to drive up from Irvine to the Troubador, Whiskey, and the Roxy. Brings back a lot of memories....
