Trying My Hand At Child Psychology

Last night, Mary had to work late and we had to switch up child taxi duty.  So after work I went for run and then went to pick Ian up from his after school program.  I found Ian in rare form - crabby and demanding to be fed immediately.  After some negotiation, we agreed to stop by the market and pick up a rotisserie chicken.  I also told him that if things got critical and he fainted from hunger in aisle 2, we could split a Clif Bar or something.

This seemed to work until we got into the market.  Then he started up again.  So in a moment (of what I think was) brilliance, I set my phone to record video and told him to follow me around and make a movie.

It's kind of interesting to get a glimpse of how Ian looks at things.  Note the abrupt change in direction after he computes what he had just seen on the rack.  We never did have to get a Clif Bar.

If there had been a kitten there too you would have really had it made! There is nothing like a kitten!

Thats awesome. You make a great baby sitter!

I can't believe you missed my hike post - I repped your free yourself tee! One guy on the trail asked me what it meant, I was like umm, to me it's self-explanatory. Anywho, I wore it for a photo opp and then realized (when I got home) that my jacket covered it some.

Awesome! I have to agree that your plan of distraction was brilliant.

Any parent that doesn't even try the distraction ploy is a complete fool. Thankfully we have a lot more toys to offer, including technology!

I kind of feel like that some days...."ooh pretty colors!"

Great distraction ploy. It's interesting because there have actually been quite a number of psych studies that have either given children camera on put cameras on them in some manner in order to study their thought processes and focus. You're a PhD in the making!

What a great idea. You should do this more often. I loved the two voices:
1. The saddest announcement over the PA system.
2. "Daddy, look at this!"

I wonder how our parents ever survived without portable devices :-) Oh, that's right. Our parents left us in the car while they ran their errands. Great video!
